1. About TAX Q

TAX Q is operated by TAX Q Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company number: [COMPANY_REG_NUMBER_PENDING]). TAX Q is a software service enabling UK landlords and sole traders to submit quarterly updates to HMRC under MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA).

By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a UK resident. TAX Q is for individuals within scope of MTD ITSA. It is your responsibility to confirm you are required to comply with MTD ITSA before using the service.

3. Nature of the service

TAX Q is software, not a tax adviser or regulated financial service. Nothing in the service constitutes tax advice. You are solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of information you submit to HMRC.

TAX Q submits data to HMRC on your behalf as your software agent only. We do not verify your figures or take responsibility for inaccurate or incomplete submissions.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Ensure all figures submitted through TAX Q are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
  • Maintain your own records as required by HMRC.
  • Keep your account credentials secure and notify us of any suspected unauthorised access.
  • Not use TAX Q for any unlawful purpose, including submitting false information to HMRC.
  • Accept responsibility for any HMRC penalties, interest, or surcharges arising from your submissions.

5. HMRC connection

To use the submission features you must authorise TAX Q to connect to your HMRC account via HMRC OAuth 2.0. By doing so you grant TAX Q permission to submit MTD updates on your behalf.

You may revoke this authorisation at any time through your HMRC online account. Revoking access will prevent further submissions until you reconnect.

6. Subscription and payment

  • TAX Q costs £10 per month (inc. VAT).
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you agree to Stripe's terms of service.
  • Subscriptions renew monthly and may be cancelled at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day right to cancel from purchase if you have not yet used the service.
  • We do not offer refunds for partial months except where required by law.

7. Availability

We aim to keep TAX Q available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance or updates at any time and will give reasonable notice of material changes.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TAX Q Ltd is not liable for:

  • HMRC penalties, interest, or enforcement arising from your submissions.
  • Loss of data due to circumstances outside our reasonable control.
  • Indirect, consequential, or economic loss from use of the service.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under English law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

9. Intellectual property

All software, content, and design of TAX Q is owned by TAX Q Ltd or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the service.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these terms or unlawful use. You may close your account at any time by contacting hello@taxq.co.uk.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

12. Dispute resolution

If you have a complaint or dispute, we ask that you follow these steps:

  1. Contact us first. Email support@taxq.co.uk and we will try to resolve your issue informally within 14 days.
  2. Online Dispute Resolution. If we cannot resolve the matter informally, you may use the UK/EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
  3. Data protection complaints. If your complaint relates to how we handle your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
  4. Courts. As a last resort, disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to these terms

We will give reasonable notice of material changes by email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
